5. If you're going to snack late at night, make it a healthy snack.

There is a common misconception that snacking at night contributes to weight gain. This is simply not true. What contributes to weight gain is the type of snacks that people eat at night. To help you maintain your weight and avoid ruining that great workout you had during the day, eat a healthy snack like popcorn.

6. Develop and stick to an exercise plan.

Most people have a difficult time maintaining their weight because they fail to develop and stick to an exercise plan. There is no way around it. The best way to maintain weight is by eating right and working out. However, if you have an erratic exercise plan, you are going to find that your weight also behaves erratically. Try to develop a schedule that you can stick to. You will soon find it becoming as natural as brushing your teeth.

7. Pay attention to any noticeable weight gain and adjust your lifestyle accordingly.

Too many times, people fail to notice their weight gain until it is too late. Managing your weight is much like managing and maintaining a car: you have to stay on schedule. Weighing yourself on a regular basis can prevent pounds from sneaking up on you. Additionally, paying attention to any weight gain will put you in a position to adjust your eating or exercise habits accordingly.

8. Keep your carb consumption to a minimum.

For most people, the main reason it is difficult to maintain their weight is because of their overall carb consumption, as they tend to eat too many carbs in relation to their level of physical activity. Carbohydrates are important for brain function, but in terms of an energy source, it takes the body much longer to break them down and convert them into energy. If you consume a high number of carbohydrates but fail to burn them off, you will soon find yourself gaining weight. The idea is to eat what you need and no more. Cutting back on both starchy and sugary foods an excellent starting point.

9. Eat foods that contain healthy fats.

It is almost impossible to completely eliminate fats from the diet. If you absolutely have no other choice, consider eating foods or cooking foods with healthy fats. In most cases, this means eating foods that are cooked with vegetable fats or olive oil, and staying away from foods that contain dangerous trans-fats.

10. Find a partner.

Don't approach weight loss or weight management by yourself. Losing weight and exercising can be difficult for people to do on their own. In most cases, a partner can help to keep a person motivated, especially during the most difficult aspects of a weight-loss or exercise plan.
